Code of conduct
Learn how to explore Falun’s World Heritage site with care by following local guidelines, respecting nature and culture, and embracing the right of public access.
The slag is protected
Slag is the residual product that arises during copper production. In Falun, there are large amounts of visible slag piles, but much of the slag has historically been used as filling material, for example, in road construction, and is therefore not visible to the naked eye but is hidden in the ground. The slag in the World Heritage site of Falun is protected under the Antiquities Act and may not be moved.
Visit in different seasons
We do encourage travellers to visit in different seasons. We do actively work with sustainability and coming in different seasons ensures that it is not overcrowded, and we can preserve this unique environment. At the same time, the World Heritage of Falun offers plenty of experiences during all seasons.
Allemansrätten or The right to public access
Thanks to the Allemansrätten, we can move freely in nature, pick berries and mushrooms and spend the occasional night in a tent almost anywhere. It belongs to everyone and welcomes both you with well-worn hiking boots and those who prefer to walk in sneakers. However, it is also based on us taking responsibility together. We practice public access by showing consideration for animals, nature, landowners and fellow humans. This means that it is important to think about your responsibilities, for example, observing designated pathways to protect natural habitats, to pick up trash after yourself, do not harm forests or animals or do not make a fireplace where it is at risk for fire, and maintaining a quiet atmosphere to ensure a peaceful experience for all.
Cultural heritage
As visitors to the World Heritage site of Falun, Sweden, it is essential to recognize and respect the profound historical and cultural significance that this location holds. Be mindful of the historical and cultural significance of the site; avoid behaviour that could damage or jeopardize the historical buildings and artefacts.
