Welcome to Swedish for immigrants, SFI

Learning the Swedish language is important when you are new in Sweden. At SFI, swedish for immigrants, you get to learn how to read, write, listen to and speak swedish to cope with your everyday life. You'll learn about the Swedish society and prepare yourself for your future working life.

Our SFI is often combined with other activities. It can be:

  • Social orientation, for those who are completely new in Sweden
  • Orientation courses
  • Primary school courses, for example mathematics
  • More information about orientation courses

    The goal with orientation courses during SFI is to learn the Swedish language combined with practical elements and knowledge about the Swedish labour market.Seeing what opportunities you have and learning more about working life in Sweden will help you make your own well thought out decisions about your future.

    Social orientation is a course where you learn about the Swedish society. The course gives you important information for a good start in Falun.
    • To take the course, you must have recently received a residence permit in Sweden.
    • The course is in your mother tongue, or another language that you know
    • The course is at least 100 hours
    • The course is free
    You get to learn about the individual's rights and obligations, democratic values, how society is organized and about how to earn a living and develop in Sweden. You get to listen, ask questions and discuss with your teacher and other students.You can apply to social orientation here (only in swedish).

You can change the language on the application site to english by selection Engelska/English under "Presentationsspråk".

When you have applied to SFI you will get a meeting invitation from a guidance counsellor. During the meeting you will receive more information about SFI and you will plan your studies together .

Who can study SFI in Falun?

  • Adults over the age of 16.
    If you are between 16 and 20 years old, you can study at the Introduction program Länk till annan webbplats. at the Swedish upper secondary school.
  • You who do not have basic knowledge of the Swedish language.
  • You who are registered as a resident (“Folkbokförd”) in Falun.

EU/EEA citizen

In some cases, you may also have the right to study SFI even though you are not registered in the municipality of Falu. This applies if you are entitled to education based on:

  • the EU-right
  • the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA)
  • the agreement between the EU and its Member States and Switzerland on the free movement of persons.

Ukrainians and the Temporary Protection Directive

You who have been granted extended protection under the temporary protection directive can study SFI if you live in Falun municipality. You need to be 18 years or older.

This only applies to SFI and courses in Swedish as a second language at primary school level and upper secondary level. You do not have the right to study other courses or vocational training at the Adult Education.

Studiepaths

SFI is divided into different studiepaths and consists of four courses: A, B, C and D. Your previous school background is what determent your studiepath and how many courses you will study.

The different study paths.

Studiepath 1
Course A, B, C and D. This path is for you with no och very short (0-6 years) school background from your home country.

Studiepath 2
Course B, C and D. This path is for you with 7-12 years of schooling in your home country.

Studiepath 3
Course C and D. This path is for you who had more than 13 years of schooling in your home country.
